History of the Department
Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pediatric Mental Health was established in August 2003. Firstly, with the participation of the first Research Assistant in the April 2006 TUS period, active specialty training in Pediatric Mental Health and Diseases was started. By October 2023, there are 4 educators (one professor and three associate professors) and 12 residents/ assistants in our department. Education
Educational lectures and article hours are organized on Tuesdays and Fridays throughout the year with the participation of faculty members, residents and medical students. 1st YearResident: Child Psychiatry residents are assigned to a one-year rotation in Psychiatry AD within the first two years. First year residents are responsible for history taking, diagnosis, treatment and patient follow-up in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry clinic and Psychiatry service and later in the outpatient clinic.
2nd Year Resident: Assistants are responsible for patient evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up. They are also responsible for the evaluation of consultations requested from otherdepartments. They receive supervision when necessary for outpatients and patients for whom consultation is requested.
3rd Year Resident: In the third or fourth year of residency training, residents do a 3-month Pediatric Neurology rotation in the Department of Pediatrics. Here, they are responsible for the examination, diagnosis, differential diagnosis and treatment of pediatric neurology patients. They start their specialty thesis in the third year.
4th Year Resident: Under the supervision of O.M.U. faculty, residents are responsible for monitoring the activities of the entire Child Psychiatry AD clinic. In the last year of training, residents assume full responsibility for the follow-up of outpatients in the outpatient clinic, inpatients in the ward and consultation patients. They also contribute to the educational process of junior residents and medical students.
