History of the Department

Department of Medical Microbiology started its academic activities in the 1982-1983 academic year within the Department of Basic Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Ondokuz Mayıs University.

Theoretical Structure and Academic Purpose of the Department

Faculty members of our Department provide education, research activities and Medical Microbiology Laboratory services using modern and contemporary facilities. Our faculty members provide both theoretical and practical training on Medical Microbiology to the students of the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Dentistry and are also members of various Block boards. In addition, postgraduate education is provided to the residents and Master's and Doctorate (PhD) students under our department of the Institute of Health Sciences. Many scientific studies are carried out in our department and the results of these studies are published in various national and international journals.

The Future Plan Envisaged by the Department

Thesis projects of med,cal microbiology residents, Doctorate and Master's students, TÜBİTAK and BAP scientific research projects are studied in the Laboratories of the Department. The results of these research studies are presented on scientific platforms. In our laboratories, we are working on genotypic detection of antimicrobial resistance, molecular epidemiology and phenotypic antimicrobial resistance, and it is planned to increase these studies and focus on multidisciplinary studies in the future.
