HISTORY
The Department of Radiology was established in 1978 under the umbrella of the Faculty of Medicine, which began its education and training activities in Samsun as part of our university.
Our Radiology Department, which initially provided services in challenging conditions within a section of Samsun Chest Diseases Hospital, rapidly established the necessary structure. The shortage of academic and administrative staff was quickly addressed, and in a short time, it began to serve a region that included all of the Central Black Sea and a part of the Central Anatolia.
With the relocation to the Kurupelit campus hospital building in 1986, our department not only took on the responsibility of training Medical Faculty students in the new devices brought forth by computer technology but also made these devices available for the benefit of patients.
The region's first Computed Tomography and Angiography Device started to be used in the Radiology Department in 1986.
In 1988, with the opening of the Radiology department of the School of Health Services, which began its education at our university, it also took on the responsibility of training Radiology Technicians. In a short time, with its teaching staff, research assistants, and X-ray technicians, it reached the size of a medium-scale hospital on its own.
In 1994, with the establishment of MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), DSA (Digital Angiography), and the second Computed Tomography device, our university started to be represented successfully in scientific research and publications in our country and abroad.
In 2000, Spiral CT and Ultrasonography devices were introduced. In 2004, with the introduction of MSCT (Multi-Slice Computed Tomography), the second MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), new ultrasonography, and digital radiography devices, all imaging devices and methods that technology introduced for radiology began to be used.
Starting from 2004, dry system bath machines were used instead of wet system film bath machines. With the transition of our hospital to the automation system, the Image Archiving and Communication System (PACS) was introduced for image archiving and communication. All examination images taken in the Radiology Department are archived centrally. At the same time, these images can be easily accessed from any computer connected to our hospital's automation system, and past examinations can be reviewed if necessary.
In 2005, our second mammography device was put into service.
Today, our Radiology Department has 2 Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), 3 Computerized Tomography (CT) devices, one of which is multidetector and one is spiral, 7 ultrasonography (US) devices, 2 vascular and non-vascular interventional radiology units, 2 mammography devices, 2 fluoroscopy units, 8 direct X-ray units, 9 mobile X-ray devices, and 3 dry system bath machines.
Daily, the Radiology Department admits 1000-1200 patients across all its units.
Today, the Science of Radiology is divided into two main branches: diagnostic and interventional radiology.
Our department has teaching staff and technical personnel with extensive knowledge and experience in using all the tools and equipment required for both branches, in examination and intervention.
Our goal is to prioritize patient rights and patient satisfaction and to make continuous improvement and change.
