History of the Department
The Department of Medical Education was established with the request of Ondokuz Mayıs University Rectorate on 30.06.2003 and the decision of Higher Education Council on 25.07.2003. The first head of the department was Prof Dr Şaban Sarıkaya under the responsibility of the Dean's Office.

Programme Development And Evaluation in Medical Education, Studies On The Harmonisation Of National Core Education Programme
Under the leadership of the Department of Medical Education, studies have been carried out to ensure that the content of the undergraduate medical education program is in line with the National Core Education Programme (NCEP) for 2014 and 2020. As part of these studies, our department has made significant contributions to the definition and updating of the Faculty of Medicine's mission, vision and learning outcomes. Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Medicine's Medical Education Programme Improvement and Development Project was completed under the leadership of the Department of Medical Education to reassert the institution's vision for the next 10 years in pregraduate medical education.
The tasks to be carried out in the relevant boards in the functioning and management of the education system
Faculty members of the Department of Medical Education continue to serve as the chairman and board members of the Elective Block Coordination Board. In the preclinical period, since 2013, the role of coordinator of each elective block has been carried out under the chairmanship of our departmental faculty members. Each year, students have the opportunity to exhibit and present their work at the ILearn- Teach festival, which is part of the second year elective course. The block programmes "Professionalism in Medicine I and II", delivered by the faculty members of the Department of Medical Education as responsible and assistant responsible, aim to acquire knowledge, skills and attitudes in the areas of communication, information literacy, management, ethics and professional values, teamwork and interprofessional interaction within the framework of professionalism in medicine. The faculty members of the department are the chairmen of the elective blocks for the orientation week and pre-clinical period, and they are also board members in many block committees.
Faculty Development and Continuous Professional Development Activities
The Department of Medical Education also plays a role in continuing professional development activities. The faculty members of the department have organised Educator Development Courses for faculty members and health professionals both within their own university and in other universities (such as Giresun University Faculty of Medicine, Karabük University Faculty of Medicine).
XII. National Medical Education Congress at Samsun
The XII. National Medical Education Congress was held in Samsun on 19-22 May 2022, hosted by Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Medicine and led by the Department of Medical Education.
Education and Teaching Activities
As part of the undergraduate medical education programme, faculty members in the department participate in courses, small group studies, problem-based learning sessions and panels on behavioural, social and human sciences from year one to year five.
Research Activities
In addition to the articles published in national and international indexes by the faculty members of the Department of Medical Education, there are many oral and poster papers presented at national and international congresses and awarded prizes. A book specific to the field has been written by the faculty members of the Department and significant contributions have been made in both the translation and editorial processes of two books.
