Establishment and Development of the Department
Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery was founded in 1985 by Prof. Dr. O. Ata Uysal as the "Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery". With the event we held in 2015, the 30th anniversary of the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery was celebrated with the participation of our two valuable professors, Prof. Dr. O. Ata Uysal and Prof. Dr. Naci Karacaoğlan, who made great contributions to our clinic. The faculty members of our department include 1 Professor and 1 Associate Professor. Currently, the Department is headed by Prof. Dr. Ahmet Demir.
Working Order;
Polyclinic service is provided between 08.30 - 16:00 on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. (Please make an appointment so that we can serve you faster and better). Our operations are performed under general/local anesthesia in two operating rooms 5 days a week.
Theoretical Structure and Academic Purpose of the Department
Clinical Applications
Treatment of congenital anomalies:
Cleft lip - palate and other (craniofacial / skull and facial) anomalies · Jaw Surgery (orthognathic surgery) · Protruding ears, absence of auricle and deformities · Absence of breast, breast asymmetry · Defects or deformities in hands and feet · Congenital masses · Congenital vascular anomalies (hemangiomas and vascular malformations) · Congenital anomalies of genital organs.
Treatment of acquired disorders:
·Bone (Maxillofacial trauma) and soft tissue traumas of the face · Hand surgery (nerve lacerations, tendon lacerations, hand and foot bone fractures) · Replantations (minor and major) · Lymphedema · Benign / malignant tumors of skin and soft tissue · Acute burn and post-burn deformities · Head and neck tumors and reconstructions · Ptosis (drooping eyelid) and tear duct surgery · Shape and function disorders in the extremities · Peripheral nerve compression syndromes (such as carpal tunnel syndrome) · Reconstruction of absent breasts after cancer · Shape and function disorders of the genital system , Chronic wounds (pressure sores, diabetic wounds, venous stasis ulcers) , Microsurgical free tissue transfers
Aesthetic Surgery:
Nose aesthetics Facial rejuvenation, eyelid aesthetics Endoscopic face-forehead lift, eyebrow lift Correction of auricle deformities Chin enlargement and reduction operations Breast surgeries: enlargement / reduction / erection Operations to reduce excess skin - subcutaneous fat tissue Liposuction (fat suction) – lipectomy (fat removal) Elimination of scars and irregularities on the skin Botox, fat and filler (hyaluronic acid) injections Hair transplantation – replacement
Physical Conditions of the Department;
Ward: Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Ward provides service with 19 beds on the 3rd floor.
Polyclinic: In addition to 4 examination rooms, our department polyclinic has 1 dressing room, 1 library, 1 classroom and an operating room where local interventions can be performed.
Operating Room: Surgical interventions are performed within the Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery department in double rooms in our hospital's operating room, 5 days a week.
Future Goals of the Department
Our Department, where the most distinguished plastic surgery practices of the region are performed and thus recognized, aims to be a center in the future that appeals to the patient population from neighboring nations, hosts international scientific activities and produces studies that will make meaningful contributions to the world medical literature.
