HISTORY

The Department of Internal Medicine, which started to serve with the establishment of Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Medicine Hospital in 1995, provides service with a staff of 14 Professors, 9 Associate Professors, 3 Assistant Professors, 15 subspecialty research assistant and 85 research assistants. It includes 9 subbranches, including General Internal Medicine, Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases, Gastroenterology, Geriatrics, Hematology, Nephrology, Rheumatology, Medical Oncology and Intensive Care. While the total number of beds at OMU Faculty of Medicine is 1114, the number of inpatient services of our Department of Internal Medicine is 9 and we have a total of 207 beds including our Intensive Care Units with 21 beds (16 + 5 beds). While the annual occupancy rate of our hospital was 68.36% in 2023, it was 85.20% in the Internal Medicine services. The annual number of outpatient clinic patients of our hospital in 2022 is 1,023,841, and 182,584 of this number are patients in outpatient clinics affiliated with the Department of Internal Medicine. Since it is the most developed hospital in the Black Sea Region, our faculty receives patient applications far beyond its capacity. The department most affected by this situation is the Department of Internal Medicine. Our established and active science branches and faculty members are listed below. In addition, our branches of Geriatrics and Intensive Care which received establishment permission from YÖK in 2011, have also become active.
